Dell Technologies is back as a publicly traded company. Michael Dell took his technology behemoth private in 2013 in order to recalibrate without the scrutiny of Wall Street investors after a years-long slump. As a private company, Dell bought enterprise hardware giant EMC for $67 billion in 2015, which came with a majority stake in enterprise software titan VMware. Now that the mega-acquisition has settled, Dell is hoping that its recharged portfolio of businesses—everything from cybersecurity to data center software—will return it to the top.
