What’s in your wallet? Plenty if you’re Capital One, where earnings grew more than 200% year-over-year on the strength of revenues that were up nearly 8% from 2017. Though it’s not the biggest commercial bank on this list (it’s only the seventh-largest in terms of revenue), the McLean, Va.-based company is certainly one of the more visible; its inescapable advertising campaigns, featuring Hollywood actors, are backed by a massive marketing budget that grew 30% in 2018. But such expenditures have seemed to work in helping to grow the bank’s business, and this marks Capital One’s 20th consecutive year on the Fortune 500—and its first time in the top 100.
