A distributor of pharmaceutical and medical products, Cardinal climbed one spot on this year’s 500 thanks to a 7% jump in sales. While business was brisk, weak pricing of generic drugs and the loss of a contract with Safeway led to a 10% loss in profits in 2017. Like its competitors, Cardinal has come under fire–and faces a bevy of lawsuits–for its alleged role in the nation’s opioid epidemic.
