Oil prices dropped off a cliff in 2014, leaving Marathon with another year of sliding revenue, though the Ohio-based fuel company’s earnings did rebound after tumbling a year earlier. Marathon has been seeing record earnings from its Speedway gasoline station and convenience store business, which picked up more than 1,200 new locations with its $2.9 billion purchase of the Hess retail unit. The company is also growing its midstream business by expanding pipeline projects in Illinois and North Dakota’s Bakken region.
