The Morristown, N.J.-based conglomerate, which manufacturers everything from drone engines to security systems to its signature home thermostats, has been on a tear, quadrupling its market capitalization to $80 billion since CEO David Cote took over in 2002. The company has demonstrated strong growth during his tenure, doubling its revenue to $40 billion in that time. Recently inked deals—an agreement in April to outfit the cockpits of a future Southwest Airlines’ Boeing fleet with avionics and another in May to support a Nigerian oil refinery alongside the West African industrial powerhouse the Dangote Group—promise to keep its business on track. But analysts think it’s about time the cash-rich company made a major acquisition to keep that growth fueled.
