Although nothing runs like Deere, its business is struggling. While the company continues to enjoy a diverse portfolio and a burgeoning number of employees of over 50,000, net sales and revenues decreased by about 5% with less consumers buying agriculture and turf products. Net income and earnings per share were also down for the year in 2014. As the global demand for grain increases, there will likely be a larger appetite for John Deere’s signature equipment. As a result, research and development remained steady in 2014 at $1.5 billion. The company forecast a challenging 2015 with a “significant reduction in sales and earnings” as demand for agricultural products continues to decline.
