Caterpillar’s sales fell 16% in 2013, as mining customers reduced equipment purchases. According to CEO Douglas R. Oberhelman, the year “turned out to be worse than we anticipated.” Added Oberhelman: “We expect mining companies to further reduce their capital expenditures in 2014.”
