Tony's Chocolonely

Underpayment of farmers is a common form of exploitation in cocoa supply chains, with little accountability. Facing the resulting poverty, cocoa-growing communities sometimes resort to child labor and deforestation. Founded in 2005 and based in Amsterdam, Tony’s Chocolonely is working to end exploitation in cocoa supply chains through traceability, farmer pricing, and industry advocacy. The company uses traceability to know who its sources are, including understanding cocoa bean origins. It also pays higher prices to cocoa farmers based on a Living Income Reference Price (LIRP). Tony’s also works with partner collaboratives to improve farming practices and address inequalities in the cocoa sector.
