Welcome, Zita. Thank you so much for joining us at the Fortune Coo Summit. Thank you for having me. Absolutely. All right, Juanita, as Kristen already alluded to you, spent years at the W NBA president and coo of the W NBA sparks. Uh You've also worked at the NBA. You've now made this pivot to soccer, uh kind of an unconventional path. Talk to me about the skills and learning you developed while in basketball and how it translates to your current role. Yeah, I think one of the things working in the W NBA and the NBA family, you're gonna get some of the best of the best business practices, um how you build your teams, uh the sharing of practices. Um those things from the foundational pieces in that league have made it what it's so great and what you see and as the NBA season is about to tip off and we're in the midst of W NBA playoffs. So when I think about the MLS and part of the transition is MLS was sitting in a very similar state of where W NBA was. Um when I joined MLS or at year 20 six, similar to where the W NBA is. They're like 28 now going on 30. So the business itself for the MLS sat in a very similar spot of where it needs transformation, where it needed change and growth opportunities specifically with World Cup coming in 2026. To your point. W NBA is seeing this huge surge of interest right now. When I think about soccer globally, it's quite popular within the US, Historically, it hasn't been as popular as other competing in sports when you joined DC United roughly four years ago. What were your focus areas? What were the pain points at the time? Yeah, I think part of the focus was re-establish the business as a whole. Um re-establish practices from a business that put us in the best class. Um We needed to when I came in. It was right after COVID. So during that standpoint needed to hire restructure from an internal standpoint. I think I put my coo hat back on and think about how do we operate, operationalize this business quickly, knowing what we have coming ahead in 26. So it was re establishing our partnerships, understanding structure from the inside, building a new team to go along with that to really drive the business forward and start to engage. Let's break this up into three chunks because when I see people with roles like yours, especially when they're coming in in the early days. And it's very nascent. I say, where on earth do you begin? So talking about the beginning, the middle and the end stage of operational eye in this process, I think one of the biggest things in the beginning is building trust. Um People don't really move for you or they don't really react in different ways unless they have a sense of trust. So I really live off of three CS. It's a simple form that I've learned over the years of going in and helping to transform businesses. Um consistency, commitment and communication. So in the first stage of that is consistent behavior by me as a leader, how I show up each day, how I work with my team each day, that consistency really helps to drive uh a mimic of behavior and trust between myself and the team. Um The communication is learning from them, the different communication styles building on their style versus my style. How do we mesh? How do we find on middle ground? Once we start to build that communication funnel, it's really then the commitment to the work. Right. So we've been consistent in how we work, we're communicating well, and we have a level of strong commitment to build the business and move it forward. So those are like the phases of like how we start to really go. And then from there, you have that first year to two years and you're looking at like the, the small problems. Right. Right. And you're strategizing for the longer term problems at the same time. And, and where do you get your big wins? And you? 3 to 5? I'm really? And that's kind of where I'm sitting with my club currently is. OK. We've been here, we've been in this, we've been in the rotation. How do we transform and go even to the next height? And so at this time, it's, do you have the right people? You know, we have those quick changes in the beginning now that you've had your team with you. It's re evaluation. Do we have the right people? Are we using the right strategy? And is it building towards a long term for us? And now I sit and get ready for the next five years. It's taking it to the next level, those big ideas implementation, making sure that the structure we built underneath is strong enough to support the change in which we want to create. You consider. We, we first of all say that you're very people first and I, I wanna know what that means in practice. You also say that you're a systems thinker as you think about efficiency. What does that look like in practice? Can you share any anecdote? What a people first is, is I need people to move with me, right? We can all stand here and say and understand our practices. But my people first is making sure I'm investing in their development, creating connection with them and helping them grow skills to be better at their business. And so examples in that is developing courses, bringing in speakers, creating access to conferences and events so that they're developing um personally. So that's my people first aspect and how I really try to dive into that um for the other areas. It's really about that next step of, I think you asked me about the um what was the next one you asked me? So the systems come in because as I develop the people, they need systems to work with it. So what are our processes that really help them actually be able to execute what I'm asking for? So I really try to look at different systems, whether it's the implementation of project management tools like a Sana um Tableau that's giving them data visualization so they can keep track of what's flowing for them. I think in our world, it's very interesting because we go B to B and B to C back and forth all the time between dealing with fans to dealing with brands. And so it's a combination of building a system around that of communication, what the platforms are and kind of creating a streamline for them there, you kind of touched on this. I want zero in a bit more just in terms of how you are leveraging tech platforms cr MS to enhance front office productivity and some of the results you've seen thus far. Yeah, I think for us, it becomes, we actually start to learn our consumer, right? That's the key. So for our, for our staff and your consumer, how would you decide uh determine your consumer? For DC United? If we have a couple of different, we have like 2 to 3 different types of consumers that we really look at. We look at somebody that is family oriented, we look at family that's gonna be like our primary, they take up a big bulk of our, our base. The next we have the entertainment seeker. So somebody that's just looking fun activities, things to do, hang out with their friends, whatever it may be, they're always looking for experiential aspects. And then we have our soccer enthusiasts, our purists, um our purists are the ones that really love the sport beginning to end, whether it's MLS. Um There's typically a differentiation in between those that watch like the European soccer leagues versus MLS. Um It's two different types but those soccer enthusiasts really do help. And so you able to leverage uh technology to be able to Yes. So then we can create actual dynamic experiences for them and how we communicate direct to their needs um through automation um through different platforms or email platforms and communications that really make sure that everything that we do is tailored to have that voice and tone of that consumer and the work that we do. Yeah. Uh perfect segue under your leadership, DC, United uh has seen or I should say it's hitting new attendance record. So, congrats on that. If you think about how you mint new stands, are you focused locally internationally? What's the thinking there? And it's also quite interesting because I'm a DMV native. So I know DC, uh, is, is quite diverse. Um, you know, a thriving black population, one that's quite affluent as well. So, just how do you think about minting new fans? Yeah, I think for us it's meeting them where they are. Um And I think for us in the US as well, it's many, when we talk about like, I'll talk specific to the African American audience, right? A lot of our African American audience doesn't necessarily experience soccer in the same way beyond maybe a 3 to 5 year when their kids are playing when they're very young. A lot of that has to do with the systems and the processes of how you elevate to a professional level and what that looks like. So, one of the things that we work on is a pathway to pro. So um people from diverse communities have a better understanding of actually how does the system work to play at the highest level because right now it's very clear when it comes to the NFL or the NBA, how you get there, how you make that money, how it, how it grows your career and NIL has added a whole new layer to that for so many folks in MLS and soccer, there's multiple layers, the opportunity to go play overseas, the opportunity to stay in the States and really educating on that, I think can actually help more play. And if we have more kids playing soccer at a high level, we're gonna develop our own stars in the US. When we develop our own stars in the US, the sport will continue to grow and have a higher propensity succeed in the US similar to what you're seeing overseas. Yeah, let's look to the future DC United ranks among the most valued MLS franchise with an estimated value of 775 million where the future growth lie. Where do you see opportunities to really optimize and, and streamline business processes as you move forward? Yeah, I think for us it's gonna be through technology. I know there's been a lot of conversation around that. I think creating operational efficient efficiency through technology. You know, our seasons are long things go back to back. It's really fast moving, the more that we can integrate that to know the consumer, to have touch points with the consumer that are very personalized, the more you will walk in here and be like, I feel like Tanita and Johnson and DC United are talking directly to me, then we're doing our job. Yeah. Well, as I said already, I'm a Maryland native. We don't have our own sports team. DC is our sister, sister city So I have a new sports team to support. Stablcoins are a $150 billion crypto asset class.

Can stablecoins provide safe harbor amid volatility?

the most famous Cryptocurrency courses. Bitcoin millions of people own Bitcoin today. It's a new form of money. It's used around the globe and I think that's very remarkable. Its market cap has been above a trillion dollars. And then there's another species of Cryptocurrency called stable coins whose job it is to basically replicate or imitate major currencies like the US dollar or the british pound. Stable coins are crypto tokens whose values are pegged to a fiat currency or really I guess it could be to any other price. The most common type of stable coin is one that is pegged to the U. S. Dollar. The main use for stable coins right now is for people protecting themselves against volatility. And that's really what stable coins offer to people on chain. It's just the ability to get out more or less without having to go into a coin base and go all the way into a bank of accounting. There's just a lot less friction that's involved when you have everything on chain and sort of protect people from volatility. So I want to convert Bitcoin $2 and I want to put it back into my bank account that's gonna incur a delay. And so if I want to go back and trade again I may not have my funds available when I need so stable coins really emerged at the interface between more traditional finance and banking and crypto as a solution to this kind of problem. They grew tremendously as defi became more of an interesting and developed space in crypto that's another word you hear bandied about in crypto sphere a lot it's short for decentralized finance. It's basically, you know, replacing bankers and brokerages and middlemen with smart contracts so that you know you're out there trading and there's no central clearinghouse, there's no person overseeing your just interacting with these computer programs. If you want to build any sort of advanced financial contracts on top of a Cryptocurrency, well you need to often refer to a stable reference asset. Right? Imagine a simple loan where I loan from your to you in Bitcoin depending on the price moves, you either owe me a lot more or a lot less than what we agreed to. So if you want to enter into a loan agreement is extremely useful to have a stable unit of reference, like the dollar of the three main categories of stable coin. The one that is maybe the most kind of logical would be commonly called reserve backed stable coins. They have an amount in the bank that corresponds to the amount of stable coins that they've issued. So the total value of stable coins right now I believe is roughly 150 billion. And that's largely made up between us dc and tether, I think us dc and tether make up about 75% of that number. So You know, a little more than 100 million when we created tether, we did so because my partners and I were trying to trade crypto and there were always times probably at least once a week when I would get nervous about the market and I would love to go into a safe harbor that was non volatile. The only way to do that was to take the crypto. I had converted all into Bitcoin. Take the Bitcoin and transfer it to one of the few exchanges that had access to banking and then trade my Bitcoin for dollars and have those dollars wired to my bank account. And by the time that happened it took about five days and I wanted to get back in. So our thinking was what if we were in a crypto that was tokenized dollars. They can interact with crypto and you don't have to now cash out and go through all of those troubles of getting that done. Now people always say tether has some controversy because because of its lack of transparency around its holdings. I'm no longer associated with tether. I would like tether the operators of it to be more transparent to do more frequent audits and yet people still use it. It's the most traded crypto on earth. The next category that is widely used is one that is collateral backed. And so that means that it may not be backed by U. S. Dollar Or US dollar equivalent but it's backed by some other crypto acid and is over collateralized. So for instance it might be backed at a ratio of 150% meaning that the collateral you put up would have to be 150% of the dollar that you want to take out in the stable coins. And if the value of your collateral falls below that ratio then you would have to top up in order to retain the stable coins that you took out. And these kinds of stable coins tend to be more decentralized. They can be managed by smart contracts and they also are somewhat safe in the same way that reserved back ones are but they can have volatility at times. For instance, like black swan events right? When the pandemic began, there was definitely some pandemonium in the world of these types of stable coins because obviously the value of the collateral had dropped precipitously. And the rich are known as algorithmic stable coins. And those function in a way where there's a pair of coins or even like three different coins, one that is pegged to the value of the fiat currency and then the others have free floating values. Most of these frankly have failed. The most famous of all of these was an ecosystem called terra luna in economics. A bit like the laws of physics, sometimes you can defy gravity and some of these algorithmic stable coins are really clever in their engineering were very weak in their economic and market design. How did this all go wrong? And the way up as the ecosystem grows. It's all fine. There's really no problem in that initial phase and that's why people trusted these instruments without thinking too hard about the underlying economics as you mint new coins, you're essentially taking value in and putting it in the reserve in the form of this equity token. But the challenge is that whenever you get a very large redemption, think of it as a classic run on the bank, people are tired of holding the dollar denominated token and they want to get back their value maybe to spend it on goods and services or maybe because they're worried about the stability of the stable point. When that happens, the reserve finds itself into this impossible dilemma where it needs to sell more and more of the equity to meet redemption a bit like a central bank trying to cope with a massive economic crisis. When that happens, the value of that table quickly precipitates to zero because everybody's running. Everybody tries to redeem the process reinforces itself and you get what is typically called the death spiral. People lost faith in the system and so they were trying to exit and to the prices of both just collapse to zero. Maybe at one point there might come along some algorithmic stable coin that actually works and doesn't collapse in this way, but all of them so far have not met a good faith and after the collapse of Carolina, a number of people have been saying that the word stable coins should actually not even be used for those. So, regulators are focusing on stable coins probably as a whole seeing the Carolina situation and saying like, okay, you know, do we need to put some guardrails around who is allowed to make these things, what assets are allowed to back them and things like this. Stable coins have been probably the most important coins after the original token. Bitcoin have been the most important for growing the crypto ecosystem. If you consider that half of all Bitcoin trading pairs trade with tether That tether today has over $30 trillion dollars annually of trading volume. That shows you that the stable coin concept and tether in particular have been very well received people Historically, I've always wanted to have their financial lives right where they're earning their money and spending their money and that's inside of the metaverse. If you will, then they're gonna want all their assets kind of within that realm. That's where stable coins play a key role until we have a better framework and more of the protections that you've come to expect from, you know, FTSE insurance that protects you know, your dollar balances up to 250 K. Those are the kind of things that will need to come into place for stable coins to be truly useful for consumers, merchants and for global commerce

[ MUSIC ] Brian, you have said many, many times that Intel's future is all about data and you want Intel to dominate every technology in every industry. Whether you're talking about self driving cars to smartphones. How's this going so far? It's going really well. If you take a look at the portion of our business that is truly the data centric. So our data center, and IOT, and the autonomous driving and all, they're growing Growing in double digits rates on an annualized basis. There are certain resources that have changed the world. Oil changed the world in the 1900s. It drove cars, but it drove the whole chemical industry. Data, I look at it as the new oil. It is going to change Most industries across the board. But you know, when most people think about Intel, they think of this iconic company, famous for making the best processors for PCs, and I'm sure you hear this, there's still some of the doubts that Intel can make this big push. Into data, so what are you saying, what are you doing to show that you can pull this off? If you take a look when we started this five years ago, about 20 %, 25 % of our revenue came from things outside the PC. We're now this year crossing over 50- 50, so 50 % of our revenue, Will come from outside of the personal computer. Tell us a little bit more about the PC side of the business. I mean, where is that gonna fit in, or is it, over time, just gonna fade into the background? My guess is that the PC business will still be a $ 30 billion business for us. But it'll be 25, 30 % of our business. Because the rest of the business has grown so much. So, one of your big bets is on self- driving cars. Uh- huh. And it's also a big bet by Apple and Google and the auto makers, and many many start ups. What's Intel's role? I mean, is Intel going to bring something new and different or are you just one of many companies working on this? We think that we are truly bringing something a bit different. Many of those companies, whether it be Google or Uber or other car companies, we're working with. We're the brains inside. We're building the silicone inside those. The products already. The second thing is, we've taken a very different approach in thinking about how to build out the car. A long- term approach that says, if you're going to build millions of these autonomous cars, you've got to get the price down and you've got to get the right level of technology in there, so we're building something. That we think as affordable that can go across millions of cars. And then the third thing is we've gone from a safety first perspective where the car is always looking out ahead and driving in a safe manner rather than counting on being able to identify things real time. I'm glad you brought that up because Everybody's wondering, when is this technology really gonna be ready? Especially in the aftermath of that deadly Uber crash- Yeah. Raised questions about safety, but also about the technology. So how far off is the technology from being really, really ready? We're not gonna all walk out. Tomorrow, or five years from now, when suddenly we go from the cars we have to these autonomous cars show up on the car lot and you can buy one. And you're gonna see what I call on- ramp to off- ramp, where you first can just drive on the freeway, it keeps you in the lane, allows you that. Then you'll have Fairly simple city driving capability. So it's going to go through that kinda continuum of improvement. So when will we see safe self- driving cars on the road? How far off is that? Most of us are targeting around twenty, twenty one, twenty two. Where you'll still be behind the wheel, but you'll touch the wheel maybe twice on an hour long drive. Where it's really autonomous ninety, ninety- five percent Percent of the way Let's talk about artificial intelligence, and here at fortune we just survyed fortune 500 CEO's asking them is artificial intelligence going to change the world of business. More than 50 % said A. I is very important to thier companies and thats way up from last year and also way up from other things like advanced robotics, virtual reality, block- chain, drones Things like that. How do you see AI technology changing business? It's gonna not just change business, it's gonna change every person on this planet's life in some positive way for the most part. You know, the whole thing about artificial intelligence is it's able to Assemble large growth of data large amounts of data and bring that massive data that we look at and can't make sense of sometimes into meaningful conclusions and resolutions and and businesses especially already separated by those who have artificial intelligence Helping them build strategies and make decisions and those that don't. Tell us about a company or two that's really using AI and how they're really benefiting from it. We can spot thing like Alzheimer's by doing MRIs of your brain years earlier than a human can. So its ability Our artificial intelligent to look at the photos, of the MRIs of your brain and identify changes, that's what artificial intelligent is very good at, it's just maths and so it can see changes And things that humans can sometimes have a hard time seeing. That does sound amazing. And you just said a moment ago, that, you know, most CEOs already know about the importance of AI. But many of them really aren't doing anything about it. So what's your best advice to them, On what they need to be doing now, so they don't get left behind. You've gotta go out and start hiring some data scientists. These are like people who are, they're PhDs in math and computer science and they're the ones who are going to build these algorithms and help you understand then how to go read that data. And if they don't do these steps that you just are saying, What the down side risk? You gonna be more less effecient, you gonna be more costly, you may not identify issues that other the competitors are, and you gonna get be in business. Do you thinks Intel is moving fast enough? Well I think we are moving a lot faster, than we did five years ago, I think if you go and talk to employees, they've never seen the company on this level of piece of change in competitiveness. But I don't think you can ever stand still and say, that's fast enough, in this technology world. [ BLANK_AUDIO ]
