Microsoft

Microsoft is the world’s largest software maker. The company, founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975, is best known for its software products, including Microsoft Windows operating systems, the Microsoft Office suite, and the Internet Explorer web browser. Microsoft is also known for its hardware products such as the Microsoft Surface touch screen personal computer and the Xbox series of video game consoles. Along with competitors Google, Apple, Amazon, and Facebook, Microsoft is one of the Big Five information technology companies in the U.S. In 2021 Microsoft teamed up with Goldman Sachs and Accenture to develop and share ways to build software that produces fewer carbon emissions when run in data centers as part of a push to combat the effects of climate change.
