Boeing, founded in Seattle in 1916, is one of the largest aerospace manufacturers globally and the second largest defense contractor worldwide. The company’s reputation took a big hit in recent years after its 737 Max aircraft were temporarily grounded in 2019 following two fatal crashes that killed 346 people; in early 2021, the company agreed to pay upwards of $2.5 billion in settlements. A manufacturer of rockets and satellites, Boeing is gearing up in 2021 for a mission in collaboration with NASA to send its Starliner ship to the International Space Station as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program.
