Offering intensive engineering and IT training in a nation where it’s still scarce.
Smart, the leading wireless provider in the Philippines, has played a major role in boosting engineering and IT education in the country’s schools. In 2003 it started the Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP); it now counts 68 schools under the SWEEP umbrella, and more than 32,000 faculty and students have been exposed to its training. The SWEEP Awards encourage students to develop mobile apps, and results are starting to show: Smart has spun off six student projects into actual startups.
