The CareerTech school promotes an ethic of volunteerism, says Johnnie Parks, a construction technology instructor at the Bartlesville, Okla.-based center. Parks, a city council member in nearby Broken Arrow, helps run a youth group to engage young people in government service. He also encourages his students to volunteer, by taking them on trips to refurbish a senior center and to help a university avian center raise birds. “I like to get the students involved,” he says. “I want them to have that good feeling of giving to the community.” Read the Great Place to Work review here.
