This HBS grad and former Ernst & Young tax consultant hit a winning formula with her stylish and sustainable stainless steel water bottles; they’re now found almost everywhere the plugged-in, style-conscious shop: Nordstrom, the Container Store, Starbucks, Williams Sonoma, J. Crew, Athleta, and many more. Facebook ordered 500 of them. They were (of course) the official water bottle of this year’s TED conference. And revenue has tripled in the past few years to north of $10 million. “It’s crazy when you have a call with someone like Starbucks,” says Kauss, “and you get off the phone and you think, ‘That was a $2 million phone call.”
