After an alpha test with users that started and ended in November, one of the biggest metaverse platforms is open to users again as of Thursday.
The Sandbox opened its gates this week to users for the second time, and now has double the number of experiences, chief operations officer Sébastien Borget told Fortune.
Centered around a central main hub, players can access more than 35 digital experiences including games, a digital art gallery, and a digital concert space. Unlike its season one alpha test, this one incorporates the concept of play-to-earn, which means users have the chance to earn around the equivalent of $3,000 in cryptocurrency by playing 200 quests with a specific in-game mission.
“You can earn and be rewarded for your time and engagement not only by playing games but also by actually being a creator, by learning, progressing through quests, and using your skills,” he said.
In the Sandbox, every player has an avatar that can be modified through the game’s design tool. Using the avatar you can explore the open world and communicate with other users. After March 11, Borget said, players will also be able to use avatars from external collections including the 10,000 Snoop Dogg NFT avatars released late last month.
Experiences built in partnership with Snoop Dogg, Smurfs, The Walking Dead, and Warner Music Group will be available to any user who wants to play starting Thursday, Borget said.
“It’s always a new discovery. Whether you played season one or not, you’re going to discover more content here,” he told Fortune.
