Ikea furniture is a staple in homes around the world, but one product stands above the rest, according to the company’s head of design.
Marcus Engman, who has worked with the company since 1983 — when he was 16 years old — revealed his favorite product in an interview with Business Insider. His piece of preference? The Klippan loveseat.
Engman has a connection with the product since his father designed the sofa for Ikea back in the late 1970s.
“I remember when he brought it home for tests, and he asked me and my sister what we thought of it,” Engman told Business Insider. “I have a lot of fond memories with that sofa, and I’m glad that it has survived for so long.”
The Swedish design chief also appreciates the Klippan’s simplicity and capacity for customization. It’s a standard two-seater that fits through most entryways, and it can be equipped with various fabric covers to change its aesthetic if desired.
“You can change its color and live with it for a long time,” Engman said.
Engman added that the couch’s affordability appeals to new apartment owners: Its price ranges from $249 to $299.
