Advance Auto Parts Inc. (NYSE: AAP) has hired The Blackstone Group to advise on a possible sale of the company, according to Reuters. Several private equity firms have expressed interest in the company, whose market cap rose on the news to more than $5.8 billion. www.advanceautoparts.com

The Sterling Group has completed its previously-announced acquisition of Dexter Axle from Tomkins Industries Inc., a unit of Pinafore Holdings BV. No financial terms were disclosed. Dexter Axle is an Elkhart, Ind.–based manufacturer of trailer axle, brake and suspension assemblies and related replacement parts and components. www.tomkins.co.uk

Wind Point Partners has acquired Hilex Poly Co., a Hartsville, S.C.–based maker of plastics bags, from TPG Growth. No financial terms were disclosed for the deal, which we first reported last week based on an FTC filing. www.hilexpoly.com

Wind Point Partners has completed its previously-announced acquisition of Shearer’s Foods, a Massillon, Ohio-based maker of kettle chips and other private-label salty snacks, from Mistral Equity Partners.
