Alliance Data Systems Corp. (NYSE: ADS) has acquired the $145 million receivables portfolio associated with the private label credit card file of retailer The Talbots Inc., as part of a larger deal whereby ADS will provide Talbots with private label credit card services. Lowe’s Companies Inc. (NYSE: LOW) has withdrawn a C$1.8 billion buyout offer for Canadian homeRona Inc. (TSX: RON), after Rona refused to enter into merger negotiations.

Rip Curl, an Australian surfwear company, has hired BoA Merrill Lynch to advise on a possible sale of the company, according to Reuters. The deal could be valued at around US$500 million. www.ripcurl.com
