Nutanix, a San Jose, Calif.-based provider of compute and storage infrastructure for enterprise-class virtualization, has raised $33 million in Series C funding. Battery Ventures and Goldman Sachs were joined by return backers Lightspeed Venture Partners and Khosla Ventures. The company previously raised more than $38 million. www.nutanix.com

, a King of Prussia, Penn.-based maker of cellulosic sugars, has raised $25 million in additional Series C funding from Waste Management Inc., according to VentureWire. The round total is now $75 million, including an earlier $50 million close from firms like BASF and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. www.renmatix.com

, a San Francisco-based social travel network, has raised $15 million in new VC funding. General Catalyst Partners led the round, and was joined by Menlo Ventures and return backers Benchmark Capital and Omidyar Network. The company previously raised $7.6 million. www.couchsurfing.com

Ness Computing, a personalized search engine, has raised $15 million in Series B funding. SingTel Innov8 led the round, and was joined by American Express Ventures and an affiliate of the LeFrak Organization.
