Global Blood Therapeutics Inc., a San Francisco-based developer of oral medicines to treat chronic blood-based diseases, has launched with $40.7 million in Series A funding from Third Rock Ventures.

Invuity, a San Francisco-based developer of surgical visualization and illumination technology, has raised $25 million in Series D funding. Valence Advantage led the round, and was joined by return backers Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and InterWest Partners.

Thismoment, a San Francisco-based provider of social content management software for brands, has raised $22 million in Series C funding led by Trident Capital. The company previously raised over $11 million by firms like Sierra Ventures.

C8 MediSensors Inc., a San Jose, Calif.-based provider of, has raised $19 million in Series C-1 funding. No investor information was disclosed. Existing investors include GE Healthcare Financial Services and Western Technology Investment.

Balance Water Inc., a non-flavored bottled water made with the essences of Australian wildflowers, has raised an undisclosed amount of Series A funding. Backers include Emil Capital Partners, Thomas H. Lee and actor Hugh Jackman.
