Relievant Medsystems Inc., a Redwood City, Calif.-based medical device company focused on basivertebral nerve ablation for the treatment of chronic axial low back pain, has raised $30 million in Series D funding. New Enterprise Associates led the round, and was joined by return backers Canaan Partners, Emergent Medical Partners, Morgenthaler Ventures and ONSET Ventures.

Bluewater Bio International, a British provider of water and wastewater treatment technologies, has raised £22.5 million in new VC funding. Ombu Group and Hermes GPE Environmental Innovation Fund co-led the round.

Promethera Biosciences, a Belgian cell therapy company focused on liver diseases, has raised €17 million in Series B funding. Backers include Boehringer Ingelheim, Shire, Mitsui Global Investment, ATMI and Belgian Sambrinvest. Promethera also secured a €6.6 million government loan.

StyleTread, an Australian online shoe retailer, has raised A$12 million in Series C funding. Starfish Ventures led the round, and was joined by return backers Lakestar, Nine Entertainment Co. and Adinvest.

AppStack, a provided of hosted mobile SMS communication solutions to small business owners, has raised $1.5 million in seed funding. Backers include Google Ventures, Tomorrow Ventures, 500Startups and individual angels.

Mob Science Inc., a San Diego-based provider of science-focused social games, has raised $1 million in seed funding from individual angels like David Young (Joyent CEO) and Mark Surfas (GameSpy Industries founder).
