Peter McKillop has left Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), where he had served as director of global communications. His new gig is in the New York office of global public relations firm Edelman.

McKillop joined KKR in 2008, after having served in senior communications roles with both Bank of America and J.P. Morgan & Co. His hiring was considered part of the private equity firm’s ramp-up to switching its public listing from Amsterdam to New York, which took place last July.

No official replacement has yet been named, although deputy communications director Kristi Huller remains with the firm. KKR also has a longstanding relationship with outside PR firm Kekst & Co., as detailed in the book Barbarians at the Gate (about KKR’s 1988 buyout of RJR Nabisco).

Prior to getting into corporate communications, McKillop was a journalist with Newsweek.
