  • California added 100,000 new jobs in February, thanks in large part to Silicon Valley. In fact, no time may be better than now to work in Bay Area tech thanks to escalating salaries, bonuses, and overall perks. Companies like Zynga are offering quarterly bonuses (selectively), free haircuts and iPads, while popular photo filtering and sharing app Instagram takes food orders from staffers and always keeps the cabinets stocked with food. Meanwhile, Google reportedly pays recent computer science grads between $90,000 and $105,000, $20,000 more than it was paying people in that job just a few months ago. (Paul Kedrosky, New York Times, and Zynga)
  • Are we in the midst of a new tech bubble? Given booming valuations for companies like Facebook ($50 billion-plus) and Groupon ($4.8 billion), some pundits are saying that, despite the fact that 308 tech companies went public in 1999 compared with just 20 last year. The New York Times takes a close look. (New York Times)
  • Mark Zuckerberg made a rare appearance on Friday, sitting down with Senator Orrin Hatch at Brigham Young University to chat about technology and policy. Zuckerberg on the subject of privacy: “If you go back 10 years, people were very afraid of sharing anything on the Internet … We have extremely robust privacy controls… We are really focused on safety, especially on children’s safety.” (Search Engine Land)
  • The International Trade Commission ruled that Apple did not violate at least five Nokia patents in the company’s iPhone and iPad 3G devices related to speech-data transmission, location data in apps, and antenna configurations. (AllThingsD)
  • Hot on the heels of news that Netflix plans to pay $100 million-plus for a TV series comes news that premium channel Starz is delaying the release of TV content, like its upcoming show Camelot, to the popular streaming service by 90 days. (AllThingsD)
  • Early last week, the technorati were buzzing about the photo sharing app, Color. Now, it’s all about “Disco,” a group texting app from Google that runs off the domain Disco.com, which was bought up last year for $255,000. (TechCrunch)
  • Apple rumor alert: TechCrunch hears that iOS 5, the next major update to Apple’s mobile operating platform will likely happen this fall and not this spring as some pundits thought. The change in timing may not affect the June/July release of the iPhone 5. (TechCrunch)
  • Meanwhile, the iPad 2 launched in 25 countries besides the U.S. last Friday and sold out by Saturday. No word yet on just how many units were sold. (Fortune)
