John Kasich Throws a Monkey Wrench Into Trump’s Domination by Ben Geier @FortuneMagazine March 15, 2016, 9:56 PM EDT E-mail Tweet Facebook Linkedin Share icons John Kasich won the Republican Presidential Primary in Ohio, the state where he is a sitting governor, on Tuesday night. This win could at least temporarily stop Donald Trump’s path to the nomination. This was the first state John Kasich had won in his campaign for president. Trump won the primary in Florida earlier Tuesday, causing Sen. Marco Rubio to drop out of the race. Though Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is still in the running, Kasich is now the sole “establishment” Republican left in the contest. Though some have trouble seeing where Kasich goes from here, he has at least gotten himself on the map, even if the best he can realistically hope for is to take Trump to a contested convention this summer. The votes are still being counted in Illinois and Missouri. If Trump scores wins in one or both of those states, it could somewhat temper the ground he lost with the Ohio setback.
