Get your auto insurance from Google? by Benjamin Snyder @FortuneMagazine January 8, 2015, 8:39 PM EDT E-mail Tweet Facebook Google Plus Linkedin Share icons Google GOOG may open an auto insurance shopping site for users to compare and buy policies. The Internet giant already has regulatory clearance in 26 states through Google Compare Auto Insurance Services, Ellen Carney, an analyst with Forrest Research, wrote in a blog post this week. Those states include California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Wisconsin. In fact, Google already has an auto insurance shopping site in the U.K., dubbed Google Compare, for the past couple of years. Carney said that Google’s insurance shopping site has been repeatedly delayed, based on what insurance companies have told her. “Even though insurers have been mentioning Google overtures to participate on the comparison site to me for more than two years now, the Google Compare US site launch keeps getting pushed back,” she wrote. Although further details are currently shrouded in mystery, Carney seemed sure of one thing: “Google Compare is going to have big implications for US insurers,” Carney said. Google was not immediately available for comment.
