After working in healthcare-related IT for some time, Michael Pirron wanted to empower poverty alleviation through his work. He was drawn to the Newman’s Own brand model for social enterprise and wanted to see if it could work in a B2B vs. a B2C model. The IT management company Impact Makers—a certified B Corp—is the result. The company contributes 100% of its profits to charity. Their social mission gets them in the door, and once there, their capabilities lead to repeat work. They attribute their overall success to a combination of conscientious consumers, a labor market interested in social mission, and investor groups interested in impact. Urban location definitely matters, and the company gains clients and has access to the local workforce because of their central location.
