Prudential Financial is one of the largest U.S. insurers by assets, with 49,000 employees. And while it is based in New Jersey, about half of the company’s profits come from its Japanese operations. Last year, it invested about $13.5 billion globally, about 40% of that outside North America. In the U.K., it completed about $2.5 billion of new investments, which the insurer sees as a very active market. The private-placement market will continue to thrive as the hunt for yield continues—even in a world of rising interest rates.
