Published together with our partner, Fortune, The Best Workplaces for Parents ranking is based upon feedback 122,482 working parents at Great Place to Work–Certified companies who completed our Trust Index© Employee Survey. Mothers, fathers and their colleagues answered 58 questions about the reality of their day-to-day workplace experience, including organization-wide support for work-life balance, the quality of benefits, the fairness of opportunities for professional development and advancement, and their overall assessment of the quality of their workplace.

To determine the winners, Great Place to Work analyzed how positively mothers and fathers experience their workplace overall, paying special attention to an index of factors where parents tended to have a less positive experience than colleagues without children. Rankings also take into account how favorably parents experience their workplace relative to colleagues without children; as well as the availability and generosity of maternity and paternity leave programs, adoption support and childcare programs. Organizations needed to have at least 50 employees to be considered and are compared to peers of a similar size.

Employees say:

“As a single parent, I can’t imagine having the flexibility to thrive anywhere else like I do here. I have all the resources and support to work from home whenever I need to and I don’t feel like I am penalized or treated differently for doing so.”

“The practice of corporate law at the highest levels at a big firm is a demanding endeavor. It often requires long hours and sacrifice. But having said that, I firmly believe Cooley is the best amongst the big firms at trying to balance this overarching goal with respecting people’s humanity and trying to help its members achieve the work-life balance that is needed to keep people happy and thriving. Cooley has a very unique team-focus and entrepreneurial spirit that makes all the difference for me, and is the reason I want to spend my entire legal career here. It’s a special place.”
