Michelle Pfeiffer will appear in three films in 2017, her first major appearances in years.

In a conversation with director Darren Aronofsky, the 58-year-old actress said that despite her hiatus, she always retained her passion for her profession. “I’m a more balanced person honestly when I’m working. But I was pretty careful about where I shot, how long I was away, whether or not it worked out with the kids’ schedule. And I got so picky that I was unhirable,” she said.

Now that Pffeiffer’s children are grown and she is an empty nester, she is more open to opportunities. “I really want to work now, because I can,” she told Aronofsky.

The two will work together in the upcoming film Mother!, in which Pfeiffer stars alongside Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence. In addition to Aronofsky’s film, Pfeiffer will play Ruth Madoff in the HBO movie Wizard of Lies, and Mrs. Hubbard in Murder on the Orient Express.

Aronofsky’s and Pfeiffer’s conversation appears in the latest issue of Interview Magazine.
