Amtrak is now allowing its passengers to bring small pets in two of its busiest areas: the Northeast and New England.
For $25, passengers will be allowed to bring small pets aboard with them. The move comes about 18 months after Amtrak started a pilot program in Illinois. The pet and carrier must weigh a combined less than 20lbs. Pets must also be older than eight weeks and be vaccinated.
The trip with pets can last up to seven hours long, according to the company.
“We have listened to our passengers looking for other transportation options while traveling with their pets,” said Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman. “We are pleased to bring this pilot program to the region.”
