The streaming video provider will launch in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium and France later this year, although the company did not specify a start date for the expansion.
Netflix will be going up against more established rivals in those countries, including local outlets, as well as Amazon’s streaming service.
Over the past two years, Netflix has made a go in the European market and is now in 40 countries worldwide with over 48 million members. The California-based Internet television network, as it bills itself, already operates in the U.K. and Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
Netflix has not said what it would charge in the new countries, but said it would provide further details on fees and programming “at a later date.”
