Most of the vehicles in question are Escape sport utility vehicles.
The second-largest U.S. automaker is recalling 692,487 Escape SUVs and C-Max hybrids from model years 2013 and 2014 for a possible software problem that could impede the deployment of side curtain rollover airbags.
About 65,000 of the vehicles are the C-Max, and around 595,000 of the recalled vehicles were sold in the U.S. No accidents or injuries related to the problem have been reported.
Separately, Ford is recalling 692,744 Escape SUVs from the 2013 and 2014 model years to address potentially defective door handles. No accidents or injuries related to the issue have been reported. Some 583,000 of the recalled vehicles were sold in the U.S.
Most of the vehicles in question fall into both recall categories.
Ford said there may be more vehicles affected in other markets.
