FORTUNE — Lots of economists blamed December’s jobs disappointment on the weather. And there was a case to make for that. In December, a far higher number of people than usual said they couldn’t get work because of the weather. That wasn’t the case in January. In fact, adjusted for the weather, January’s jobs number is actually weaker than it seems.
