FORTUNE -- Ryan Sarver, the former head of platform for Twitter, has joined Redpoint Ventures as a partner.
Sarver originally joined Twitter in June 2009, after having served as director of consumer products at Skyhook Wireless. He worked with the surrounding ecosystem -- including the often-nervous developer community -- as Twitter expanded its breadth.
Here was a description of Sarver's role, via a job ad Twitter placed upon his departure earlier this year (the position remains open):
As the Director, Platform Partnerships, you will lead the team of platform relations managers, developer advocates, platform growth managers, and partner engineers on a global basis. You will work cross-functionally with a variety of different teams within Twitter such as product, engineering, analytics, sales and business development. You will be leading a team focused on driving the success and adoption of Twitter's most important platform products such as Twitter Cards, Twitter for Websites, Twitter APIs, Ads API, the Vine Platform, our mobile platform and much more. You and your team will think deeply about Twitter integration opportunities and possibilities across a wide range of verticals and partners.
Sarver officially announced his resignation back in May, tweeting that his last day would be June 28. At the time, he said that he had "no plans but rest."
Over the summer, however, he began spending more and more time hanging out at Redpoint’s offices, learning both the business and the partners. So much time, in fact, that we even drafted a post about him having been hired (seemingly confirmed when a Redpoint receptionist said his voicemail wasn't yet set up). But both Sarver and Redpoint strenuously denied the marriage, with Sarver now telling me that the actual offer letter didn't arrive until a week or two later.
"I guess other people knew I was joining before I did," he jokes.
Expect Sarver to focus on social applications and platforms, plus SaaS businesses. A formal statement from Redpoint is expected to come later this morning.
