M.I.C. Gadget produced this video of the elaborate launch in Beijing of the latest offering from Guangdong-based Meizu. You wouldn’t know it from the event’s production values, but in China Meizu is one of the also-rans behind Samsung and a growing list of Chinese-owned Android smartphone makers that includes Lenovo, ZTE, Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi. According to IDC, China this year overtook the U.S. as the world’s largest smartphone market. IDC estimates that by the end of 2012, 26.5% of all smartphone shipments will go to China, compared with 17.8% to the U.S.
