How people use their iPads: Two new surveys

Usage of the iPad is increasing. More people said they use it for 2-5 hours a day than in the past.

FORTUNE -- Two surveys issued Thursday identified some new patterns in how owners of Apple (aapl) iPads use the devices.

In its third annual reader iPad survey, Business Insider found, based on 2,242 responses, that iPad owners are spending more time on the device (median: 2-5 hours a day) and using it to do the bulk of their Web browsing (45.4%). Between their iPads and their smartphones, they now do nearly 60% of their Web browsing away from their Macs and PCs.

In a second survey, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners found that that although entertainment activities still predominate, owners of the new iPad are more likely to use it for business (21%) compared with 13% of all previous models. See chart below.
