Marubeni Corp. (Tokyo: 8002) has agreed to acquire agricultural and energy commodities company Gavilon Group, a provider of merchandising and distribution for agriculture and energy resources, for $3.6 billion. Sellers include General Atlantic, Orascom Construction Industries Co., Ospraie Advisors and Soros Fund Management. http://www.gavilon.com

The Carlyle Group has shelved the planned sale of its 23.76% stake in Taiwan’s Ta Chong Bank, according to The Wall Street Journal. J.P. Morgan had been managing the process, which reportedly failed to live up to Carlyl;e’s pricing expectations. www.carlyle.com

Pearson PLC (LSE: PSON) has agreed to acquire GlobalEnglish, a Brisbane, Calif.–based provider of cloud-based, on-demand businessEnglish learning solutions. The deal is valued at $90 million. Sellers include Mayfield Fund and Lighthouse Capital Partners. www.globalenglish.com

Toshiba Corp. (Tokyo: 6502) has agreed to acquire a 34% stake in listed Korean wind turbine maker Unison Co. for approximately $78 million. www.toshiba.com
