AOL has hired Evercore Partners to explore a sale of more than 800 patents, according to Bloomberg. The deal could be valued at more than $1 billion. www.aol.com

Roche has extended its $5.7 billion hostile bid for genetic testing equipment maker Illumina to April 20. Illumina has already says that Roche’s bid is too low. www.illumina.com

Monitise PLC (LSE: MONI) has agreed to acquire Clairmail Inc., a San Rafael, Calif.-based provider of mobile banking and payment solutions, for $173 million. Clairmail has raised over $50 million in VC funding, from firms like JAFCO Ventures, Northwest Venture Partners, Investoe Growth Capital and Outlook Ventures. www.clairmail.com

Permira has hired Credit Suisse to help it explore a sale of Iglo Foods Group Ltd., owner of the Birds Eye brands, according to The Sunday Telegraph. The deal could be valued at upwards of €2.9 billion.www.permira.com

Verisk Analytics Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSK) has agreed to acquire MediConnect Global Inc., a Sandy, Utah-based provider of systems and services that facilitate the aggregation and analysis of medical records. The net purchase price is $348.6 million. MediConnect Global has raised a small amount of VC funding from vSpring Capital and Mercato Partners. www.verisk.com

Warburg Pincus has sold its remaining 3.6% stake in Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd., via a block trade of 26.5 million shares for around $272 million. Warburg first invested in the Indian bank seven years ago.www.warburgpincus.com

Wind Point Partners has sold Santa Maria Foods, a Canadian maker of Italian food products, to Ontario-based Sofina Foods. No financial terms were disclosed. www.sofinafoods.com
