Google and Twitter hook up to allow Egyptians to Tweet by Seth Weintraub @FortuneMagazine January 31, 2011, 10:31 PM EDT E-mail Tweet Facebook Google Plus Linkedin Share icons Over the weekend, the new Googlers at SayNow teamed up up with Twitter to build a Voice-to-tweet solution which could help Google purchased SayNow last week. Instead of celebrating this weekend, the new Googlers GOOG , with the help of their new colleagues and some folks at Twitter, put together an application that can convert a phone message into a tweet. We worked with a small team of engineers from Twitter, Google and SayNow, a company we acquired last week, to make this idea a reality. It’s already live and anyone can tweet by simply leaving a voicemail on one of these international phone numbers (+16504194196 or +390662207294 or +97316199855) and the service will instantly tweet the message using the hashtag #egypt. No Internet connection is required. People can listen to the messages by dialing the same phone numbers or going to twitter.com/speak2tweet. It isn’t clear how helpful this will be, many reports out of Egypt have phone lines being cut as well, but these new Google employees certainly are making a good first impression. One of many new Google Ideas?
