Another day, another chart showing more Android growth.
The latest numbers from comScore reveal that Google’s (GOOG) Android continues to gain market share. The Android platform was up 6.5 points for the quarter ending October 10. RIM (RIMM), Microsoft’s (MSFT) Windows Mobile and HP’s Palm (HPQ) were all down while Apple (AAPL) made modest gains.
Despite losing share to Android (or in Apple’s case only gaining slightly), most smartphone platforms continue to gain subscribers as the overall smartphone market continues to grow. According to the report, 25% of phones now being purchased classify as smartphones.
In slightly confusing numbers (below), comScore shows that more than a third of mobile users are browsing the web and downloading apps, something devices classified as feature phones don’t do.
